Cave Avenue Studios
Banff, Alberta with William McDonough + Partners

Situated around an existing wildlife travel corridor at the edge of Banff, this residential housing development responds to the intricate patterns of the site and region. The space between the studios is composed as a linear court that cascades down the north facing slope and integrates native plant communities, drainage patterns and the creation and restoration of habitat. These intentions are expanded upon in the buildings where roof gardens are planted with native wildflowers that were nurtured from seeds collected by volunteers in the national park. Roof water is collected through stone cascades and directed to an underground cistern that supplies the entire development with water for gray water systems and for irrigation.
