Beginning with a site completely pockmarked by 10 ton dumptruck loads of demolition concrete, we aimed to avoid exporting any material in the final design. The glacial topography of massive drumlin fields became the source form for the project. Site refuse was shaped into various sized drumlin forms oriented consistently with the local topography and in an effort to provide winter wind shielding along loading dock areas. After final grading the site was planted as a native wildflower meadow with drifts of stoloniferous shrubs and small trees to occupy the saddles between the landforms. This project received a LEEDTM Gold rating from the United States Green Building Council.
