Developed through an intensive community process, this design strategically renovates and transforms a local playground and park into a place that is a fusion of art, environment, play, and community gathering. The major park programs of playground and play field are woven together by ecological gardens focused on native habitat, site sculpture, references to the site archaeology and by integrated benches and seat walls. The footprint of a 19th century mansion that once occupied the site is expressed as site walls and a custom play fountain that establishes a woven meter that marks the site. Traditional play elements such as the basketball court are relocated and reconsidered as multi-purpose elements that provide stages for performance, gathering, classes and sports.
