Siteworks is an award-winning landscape architecture studio based in Charlottesville, Virginia. We are dedicated to making meaningful human places that intelligently engage local ecologies, are culturally relevant and that operate simultaneously as habitat and as living sculpture. We are involved in projects ranging from gallery installations, site sculpture and private gardens, to corporate and institutional landscapes, post-industrial sites and urban design. Our project sites are located throughout the United States and abroad.

In our practice we firmly believe that all design should adhere to principles that protect and enhance natural resources, improve the ecology of sites, increase biodiversity and carefully manage the impact that human processes have on a larger context. We also believe that it is vitally important for the design of places for people to be beautiful, functionally effective and intellectually stimulating. We feel that if we don’t truly love the places where we live and work we won’t care for them properly. So, in all of our work we aim to fuse ecology and culture, nature and aesthetics. While we don’t define design simply as a problem solving endeavor, we do love the process of figuring out the multi-layered complex of issues that every project presents. We do not operate from a stylistic ideology, but rather from one that is based in a careful reading and analysis of the sites and people we work with. Our work is the outgrowth of a process that employs dialogue and creative expression to fuse the needs and desires of our clients with the inherent qualities and conditions of the places they live.
